The Public Conversation About 22 July – The terrorist

The terrorist did not come from the outside; he was described as ‘one of us’. He was born and raised in the prosperous western part of Oslo. Like any other child in Norway, he went to school and participated in activities with his peers. This realisation put Norwegian society under scrutiny: How could he isolate himself, develop extremist views and plan a terror attack, in the midst of us all? Who can become a terrorist, and who are we referring to when we talk about ‘us’?
