MEDIA 22-26 July 2011

How was the media coverage of the 22 July terror attack? Which headlines and photos dominated the front pages in the days that followed? And how did the media consider the needs of those standing in the midst of it all? The exhibition MEDIA 22-26 July 2011 present the media's immediate reaction to the terror attack.

TEMPORARY EXHIBITION

In the exhibition we see the media's immidiate response to the terror attack 22 July 2011.

The 22 July Centre wish for the visitors, both with and wthout personal memories, to explore the media coverage in the days following the terror attack, and to be given the opportunity to reflect upon the choices that were made. The vistors are brought back to a time where alot was uncertain, and where we had more questions than answers about why, how and what had happened.

The conversation continues in the 22 July Centre, twelve years after the terror attack.

Large group of journalists interviewing the police

The news from the 22nd of July and the days that followed stands in contrast to the calm, summer days in Norway, before the terror attack.

In the first days, the scope of the terror attack was still unknown. The front pages characterized the chaos, shock, and grief. Some front pages were controversial and are still debated to this day.

Behind all news coverage lies many decisions. Decisions on how to tell the stories, to portray people at their most vulnerable, and to look for the answers to the difficult question of why.

This exhibition invites you to continue the conversation about the 22nd of July and the media.
